As President I have taken the view that we shouldn’t just sit back and
ignore this campaign. This is what your Trust is about - we need
to take the initiative and influence changes for the better.
Everyone I have spoken to supports the initiative to reduce our
overuse of plastic products.
I encourage you to complete the survey. Since Tuesday’s release about
100 people have completed it. The more feedback we get the better we
understand your views. This is the first step in what I am
expecting to be a lengthy educational process.
The survey is very simple and will take less than a minute to answer. There are only four questions with Yes / No answers.
Emma Heyde and her team are driving this program but for it to succeed -
and I believe it eventually will - it needs everyone's support.
Just
a personal update on the campaign to reduce the amount of plastic
in use in Beecroft. Many of you would have seen the
recently screened ABC Channel 2 program on waste. Many of you, like me,
would already be aware of many of the waste issues raised on the
program. However, it did open my eyes to the variety of products
discarded; from clothing to the ubiquitous coffee cups and where
these products end up. As a matter of interest Hornsby Council has
been aware of these issues.
A good example has been Council’s use of plastic boardwalks, with a number now in the bushland in Chilworth Reserve.
We are fortunate to live in a socio economic community that is well
educated and well informed. We are living in Beecroft and Cheltenham
because we choose to. The suburb has many attributes that we are
proud of and want to retain and protect.
