WE NEED A TRAFFIC STUDY FOR EPPING AND NORTH EPPING
In October last year Epping and North Epping came into the Berowra electorate.
I have been getting out into the community listening to residents and
businesses, door knocking and meeting with the leaders of community
organisations.
Traffic and parking come up again and again as the number one issue. The
Epping bridge will make some improvement, but there are more
fundamental problems in those suburbs.
Epping and North Epping residents talk to me about the frustration of
being stuck in traffic, not being able to turn right out of the Northern
side of Epping except through Essex Street, the challenges of Rawson
Street and Carlingford Road and being unable to get a park in the town
centre.
With construction well underway on multiple new apartment complexes—and
the likelihood of more developments on the horizon—our roads are under
increasing pressure.
Congestion is at breaking point. While there is agreement on the
frustration there is no agreement on what the solution is.
I am working closely with both Hornsby and Parramatta Councils as
well as the State Member for Epping, Monica Tudehope MP, on solutions
that will keep Epping moving.
The last comprehensive traffic study for the area was conducted in
2018—well before the significant population growth we are experiencing
today. And no traffic study has been supported by both Hornsby and
Parramatta Councils.
As Epping continues to evolve, it is critical that we have up-to-date data to inform smart, effective infrastructure planning.
I believe it is time for a new traffic study for Epping and North Epping to improve traffic flows and create more parking.
A study of this scale is essential to ensure that future developments as
well as road and public transport upgrades meet the needs of our
growing community.

MY WORK IN PARLIAMENT
Last month, the Federal Parliament reconvened, potentially for the final session before the upcoming Federal Election.
I spoke about to the most pressing issues facing our community – the rising cost of living, and home ownership.
Among other things I outlined the Coalition's plans to allow people to
use up to $50,000 of their superannuation for a first home deposit, and
called out the government for their lack of action to address
these challenges. You can read more about our policy further in this
newsletter.
I also raised the issue of the closure of Pennant Hills Post Office in the House of Representatives, expressing our collective disappointment and concern.
Additionally, I met with the Minister responsible to present our
petition and advocate for the continuation of postal services in Pennant
Hills.
|
|
The Parliament also honoured the memory of
the Hon Tom Hughes AO KC, the first Member for Berowra, with a
condolence motion. You can watch my speech here or read my speech here.
In response to the alarming rise in hate crimes, particularly antisemitic incidents, I spoke on the Criminal Code Amendment (Hate Crimes) Bill 2024.
This legislation, which I and other members of the Coalition had
been arguing for introduces new criminal offenses, which aim to provide
greater protection to our community against those perpetrating hate
crimes, addressing the fear and uncertainty that have unfortunately
become more prevalent in recent months.
As I have said many times, law abiding Australians, whoever they are, deserve the full protection of the law.

ADVOCATING FOR LOCAL CLUBHOUSE UPGRADES
Sporting clubs across the Berowra Electorate play such an important role
in fostering the strong community spirit we know and love.
Over the past 12 months I have been meeting with the sporting clubs that
use Campbell Park, Normanhurst Oval and North Epping Oval - it was
clear that all their clubhouses have something in common.
They are no longer fit-for-purpose to accommodate the growing number of
players, and women’s teams that now play at these sporting grounds.
|
|
That is why I raised these concerns in the Parliament (you can find these speeches here and here) and I am continuing to advocate for funding to secure upgrades to all these clubhouses.
These facilities need to meet current accessibility standards, be
suitable for our women’s teams and cater for the growth in community
sport.
Support our fight by signing one the petitions for upgrades to Campbell Park, Normanhurst Oval and North Epping Oval clubhouses.

CAMPAIGNING TO SAVE PENNANT HILLS’ POSTAL SERVICES
Last month, I was made aware of the decision by Australia Post to close
the Post Office at Pennant Hills, following a DA being lodged for their
current site.
Following this news, I launched a petition
calling on the Minister for Communications, Michelle Rowland and the
CEO of Australia Post, Paul Graham to intervene. To date, this petition
has over 1200 signatures.
Recently, I met with Minister Rowland to raise our community’s concerns
and present her with the petition. Disappointingly, Mr Graham has
ignored my requests to meet with him and instead advised me in writing
that Australia Post will not keep a licensed post office in this area at
this time.
|
|
This response
is completely unacceptable and I am calling on Australia Post to
reconsider their decision. I will continue to fight for postal
services in Pennant Hills.
If Australia Post can maintain services in so many communities around
Australia why can't they maintain services in a major centres like
Pennant Hills?

BRINGING BACK THE DREAM OF HOME OWNERSHIP
For many families in Berowra, home ownership feels further out of reach
than ever before. Rising house prices, increasing rents, and limited
housing supply have made it difficult for first-home buyers and young
families to stay in the area.
Parents worry as their children move away because they simply can’t
afford to buy locally. I want Australian to own their own home. The
Liberal Party has a plan to make homeownership achievable again.
We will allow individuals to access up to $50,000 of their
superannuation for a deposit, giving young people a much-needed boost
towards purchasing their first home.
We will also pause foreign investors and temporary residents purchasing
existing homes, which is currently crowding Australians out.
Our migration levels are also exceeding the rate at which new homes are
being built. That is why we will reduce the migration intake by 25 per
cent over the next two years – to allow housing supply to finally catch
up with demand.
By implementing policies that reduce demand and provide targeted
financial support, we can help families in Berowra secure a place to
call their own. I want to ensure home ownership remains a reality for
future generations in our community.
