Newsletter - Easter 2022

Dear Members of the Pennant Hills District Civic Trust!

We hope you are all doing well, despite the enormous amounts of rainfall.

Hornsby Council is busy identifying if there are potential heritage items in the remote, river and rural areas of Hornsby Shire. They've hired a professional Heritage Consultant who would appreciate the benefit of your local knowledge in identifying places that demonstrate the heritage themes of Hornsby Shire in these areas. The work is part of Hornsby's Comprehensive Heritage Study. This could include early transport systems, evidence of early industries including agriculture, evidence of early ways of life including settlement, education, recreation, work, charity, health and disability, lifestyle, immigration, environmental management and governing. It is important to note that the  report will not include Aboriginal heritage because other consultants are working for Council in that area.  The Civic Trust executive has already submitted feedback to Council in an earlier phase, and the consultant would be grateful if you would nominate places for further investigation in Hornsby’s remote, river and rural areas.  Please take note that this should exclude the suburban areas from Hornsby to North Epping, but could include bushland places even within those suburbs.
The consultant is also working for Council to investigate potential heritage items built from 1940 onwards, across the whole of Hornsby Shire, including suburban space. If you have suggestions for places with structures built after 1940 that may have heritage significance, he would be very interested in your advice.  This will include housing, community buildings, commercial buildings and infrastructure.
If you have an interest in providing information, input of feedback to the heritage consultant, or to Hornsby Council, please get in touch with us at the email address below.
Have you asked your neighbours or your friends to join the Pennant Hills District Civic Trust? Together we are stronger, and are more likely to have our comments and concerns heard by Hornsby Council, our Mayor Philip Ruddock AO, our local Member Matt Kean, or our Federal local Member Julian Leeser.

Feel like doing more than just paying your $20 a year? Join us in the Executive, and contribute your thoughts and ideas in our consultations and submissions. We are happy to welcome you in our team!
