What's onRiverside Theatres Powerful stories, stunning aerial acrobatics and dance take the stage at Riverside Theatres this month. Stardust + The Mission, is the double bill about the lives of two Australians who trace the stories of ancestor’s pasts, the world-famous Flying Fruit Fly Circus returns with Girls with Altitude and be enticed with contemporary dance performance Double Beat. Skate and Play Prince Alfred Square will again be filled with family fun offerings over the Easter holidays. Strap on some skates and let the good times roll! There will also be a great range of food offerings and bar onsite. ANZAC Day On Monday 25 April we commemorate all Australian servicemen and women, past and present, at our ANZAC Day dawn service hosted by our local Parramatta and Epping RSL sub-Branches. If you’re unable to attend in person, we invite you to stream the live event on Council’s website. Council InitiativesAustralian Heritage Festival Council is running 32 events to showcase Parramatta’s amazing heritage for the Australian Heritage Festival from 1 April to 31 May. Learn more about our Aboriginal culture with tours and outdoor activities, fun and games during school holidays and accessible programming. ClubGRANTS Applications for Parramatta ClubGRANTS are now open! Parramatta ClubGRANTS is sponsored by local clubs and administered by Council. To be eligible, you must be a not-for-profit organisation within the Parramatta LGA. Applications close at 4 pm, 2 May. Chemical Clean Out - Sunday 1 May Make your home a safer place and dispose of unwanted chemicals for free at the Household Chemical Clean Out event to be held at Council’s Rydalmere Operation Centre, 316 Victoria Road, Rydalmere (behind Bunnings and McDonalds). PHIVE nears completion We are only months away from opening PHIVE, 5 Parramatta Square – Parramatta’s iconic new cultural, hospitality and entertainment venue in the heart of the CBD. The final touches are now being put on the building’s bright and bold façade, following the meticulous installation of 549 pre-assembled panels in five different shades of red and orange. Aquatic and Leisure Centre hits new milestone Parramatta’s Aquatic and Leisure site is once again bustling with activity after several weeks of heavy rain. All three of the new centre’s pools – the 50-metre, 10-lane outdoor pool, the 25-metre indoor recreation pool and the dedicated Learn to Swim pool – have now been fully excavated, marking an exciting milestone for the project. Escarpment Boardwalk wins accolade Parramatta River’s Escarpment Boardwalk won an award for Engineering Excellence at the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia NSW & ACT Awards on 10 March. Since opening last year, the Boardwalk has been used by over one million pedestrians and cyclists making it a great place to enjoy with friends and family. Work begins on Alfred Street Bridge Construction has started on Alfred Street Pedestrian & Cyclist Bridge over the Parramatta River. The 4.5-metre-wide, 200-metre-long link will be the first true diagonal arch bridge in Australia. The project co-funded by Council and the NSW Government is scheduled for completion by the end of the year. Changed traffic conditions on Macquarie Street Parramatta’s Macquarie Street is now permanently one-way eastbound between Smith and Charles streets, and the last section between Charles and Harris streets will be opened one-way eastbound from Wednesday 13 April. Pedestrians, drivers and cyclists are reminded to take extra care, and be aware of the changed traffic conditions.
