Welcome to my May Newsletter In this edition you will find: ☕ Community Morning Tea - you're invited Welcome to my May newsletter. As many of you may have seen, the Federal Budget has been handed down by the Federal Government. Budgets are about choices. In my view, the choices made have not been about the national interest, or growing the economy or opportunity for families to get ahead. In NSW, we know that taxes are up 30% under the Government and now the Federal Government will be raising an additional $77B in taxes. The NSW Budget will be handed down in June and will be an important marker on whether the Government can deliver for our community. I have written to the Treasurer seeking funding commitments to reduce traffic, install traffic lights at congested intersections, more classrooms for our growing high schools and more parking around our main modes of transport. This week is National Volunteer Week, and I've had the opportunity to recognise many volunteers from Epping. Just last week, I was pleased to present Epping Service and Spirit Awards to Anthony Rebase and Luke Paton from the West Epping Cricket Club. For over six seasons Anthony has volunteered as a team manager and coach at both club and representative level. Luke has generously continued running the Cricket Blast Skills group for 5 and 6 year olds, even after his own sons have grown out of the team. Our local clubs couldn't do it without volunteers like Anthony and Luke.

Beecroft Public School, Number One in Australia! Beecroft Public School has just been named the number one public primary school in all of Australia. The ranking recognised the school's outstanding NAPLAN results, with the highest Year 5 average in the entire country. Congratulations to the teachers, staff, parents and students who make Beecroft Public School what it is.
Speed Limit Change: Blaxland Road, Epping If you drive along Blaxland Road in Epping, you may notice a change. Transport for NSW has reduced the speed limit between Epping Road and Doomben Avenue from 60km/h to 50km/h. I previously asked for your feedback on this change, with most of you opposed to reducing the speed limit, however, it appears that the Government had already made up its mind on this change. A Win for Carlingford Residents One part of my role is to help people navigate the other levels of government. On behalf of a resident, I wrote to Parramatta Council to advocate for better signage of changed traffic conditions on Post Office Street and Tanderra Ave. Consequently, Parramatta Council has completed a review of this area and has proposed to undertake community consultation regarding this issue. Subject to community consultation, it is anticipated that a combination of No Stopping, No Parking and timed parking restrictions will be installed on these streets in mid to late 2026. Have Your Say, Lyne Road Reserve Off Leash Area Speaking with many dog owners in the area, I know that fenced dog parks are very much welcomed as places for dogs to exercise. However, they also need to be located in consultation with the community. I would like to thank Councillor Verity Greenwood and Hornsby Council for commencing a consultation process to fence Lyne Road Reserve. Submissions are open until 29 May 2026, and I encourage all local residents to have their say. You can submit your feedback by emailing hsc@hornsby.nsw.gov.au and referencing Lyne Road Reserve - off leash area, F2005/00111, or clicking here to submit via their website.
May Events Despite being busy with Jude, I’ve found some time this May to attend some fantastic events in our community. The middle of May marked Female Football Week, and I was glad to join the North Rocks Soccer Club at their Female Football Gala Night and Epping Eastwood Football Club on their Ladies Day. Thank you to everyone involved in putting on these events.
I also attended St Gerard's Catholic Primary School ceremony to mark the opening of their brand new infants building. State of the art facilities are an important part of learning for our students and I know that students at St Gerards will certainly benefit from this new development.
Recognising Our Next Generation Our Epping youth are achieving great things! The Beecroft Rotary Youth Awards recognise the achievements of young people in our local area, ranging from sporting feats to entrepreneurship to changemaking. I'd like to congratulate Lavinia Stonehouse from Arden Anglican School in particular, whom I presented the 'Young Person in STEM of the Year' award to. She is recognised for her passion for STEM innovation and environmental stewardship, highlighting her proposal to develop a riparian barrier at the Long Reef Aquatic Reserve. I was also proud to present Community Recognition certificates to student leaders from our local schools, including Epping West Public School, James Ruse Agricultural High School and Carlingford Public School. Congratulations to all of our 2026 student leaders!
