Message from the President Dear fellow residents,
Welcome to another edition of the Trust’s eNews. Our recent AGM was a
memorable event. The excellent guest speaker, Professor Sebastian
Pfautsch, reminded us how quality of living is influenced by retention
of the tree canopy. The AGM was also a good opportunity to talk with
Hornsby Councillors and our Member for Epping Monica Tudehope MP.
I wish to welcome our new committee members, Neil Maniar and Ray Gerke,
and also to acknowledge the contribution of Janet Hayes and Rod Best who
have resigned from Trust duties after many years of service. We are
fortunate to have a person of the calibre of Carol Liston AO on the
committee; she has replaced Rod Best as Chair of the History
group.
We have had recent discussions with Monica Tudehope MP, regarding the impact which excessive M2 noise levels are having on nearby residents.
Monica met a number of residents at their properties and witnessed
firsthand the intrusiveness of the constant, unrelenting noise the
residents have been living with for years. CLICK HERE to access recent correspondence from the Trust to Monica.
Many of the residents have been complaining to the State Government (the
lessor of the road) and Transurban (the lessee) for many years and have
received nothing but cursory replies.
The latest correspondence from Stephen Bali MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Planning and Public Spaces, is a typical example. CLICK HERE to view the correspondence.
Addressing the noise levels is expected to be a lengthy process. In the
meantime I have created a group email for affected residents. So if you
or your neighbours believe you are affected by M2 noise, email me and
I’ll include you in the group correspondence.
I intend to raise the issue with both Parramatta and Hornsby Councillors.
As we see it, the constant 24 hour noise levels are creating long term health issues.

Civic Trust AGM and Public Meeting The Beecroft Cheltenham Civic Trust held their AGM last month. Professor Sebastian Pfautsch PhD GAICD We were pleased to welcome to the meeting:
State MP Monica Tudehope,
Hornsby Councillor Mayor Warren Waddell,
Councillor Verity Greenwood,
President of the Epping Civic Trust Judith Dawes.
Guest speaker Professor Sebastian Pfautsch PhD GAICD.
The meeting elected two new members to join the Trust’s executive committee, namely,
Neil Maniar and Ray Gerke.
A very informative presentation was given to the meeting by Professor
Sebastian Pfautsch, whose presentation focused on the importance of tree
canopy in our suburbs. He made the point that Beecroft and Cheltenham
were in a very good position with over 50% canopy coverage but he
stressed that we need to remain vigilant about preserving the canopy.
The consequences of losing the canopy are: much higher ambient
temperatures and increased energy consumption. He demonstrated that
suburbs close to Beecroft with minimal tree canopy had temperatures on
average 4 or 5 degrees higher than our suburb.

Brush Turkeys

After dismantling the now long abandoned nest Chapman Ave residents found a still intact but non viable egg. Shown above, next to a hen's egg for comparison.
